This course explores the use of visual images in a diagrammatic form to express concepts, reveal and explain patterns and relationships, and to simplify complex notions to their basic essences to enhance thinking and to induce the ability to generate potential creative possibilities. The course will engage participants in the use of visual thinking techniques to improve their professional capabilities and effectiveness to enhance creativity and innovation.

The course will examine the cognitive processes involved in visual thinking, and the use of visual thinking techniques to engage these processes to enhance professional capabilities of learning and communicating to improve personal effectiveness, efficiency and productivity.
This course covers the fundamentals of drawing for visual communication. It introduces participants to a variety of drawing types, techniques, and the basic principles and conventions of graphic composition for effective visual communication. The course will equip participants with the skill to visualise creatively by expressing the images of thoughts through drawings, and to use drawing as a tool to manipulate mental images for effective communication.

It introduces participants to a variety of drawing types, techniques, and the basic principles and conventions of graphic composition for effective visual communication. The course will equip participants with the skill to visualise creatively by expressing the images of thoughts through drawings, and to use drawing as a tool to manipulate mental images for communication, idea generation and problem solving.
Effective visual thinking for information processing and creative problem solving is characterised by the person’s ability to process information and resolve problems in ways that bring forth imaginative, logical and functional solutions in a manner that is productive and efficient in time and project resources. Visual thinking engages the person in cognitive processes such as creativity, visualisation, perception and ideation to see things in new ways, recognise patterns, make connections and associations, challenge assumptions and seize upon emergent ideas for creative problem solving that are feasible, economical and efficient.
The programme covers the following:
- A variety of analytical visual thinking skills and techniques which involve identifying and establishing casual relationships and re-organising complex issues or problems into simple and manageable parts.
